What is Peace Ground Zero?
From my first post:
“Peace Ground Zero is designed to be like dropping penicillin on an infected wound. If you are trying to heal, you don’t put a drop here and there. If you want the best results, you keep dropping the good stuff in the same place and let the healing grow outward. Otherwise, the infection soon swamps the good that you’ve done. This blog is about becoming Ground Zero for Peace, myself, and hopefully to inspire others to do the same.
We all have the potential to be the Ground Zero for peace. The macrocosm reflects the microcosm. To create a new and better world, we have to become that better world. Start right here, right now.”
Following are a set of Buddhist verses I recite every day. They are not pessimistic- they are absolutely true. Don’t be afraid. Don’t hide from the truth. The fear soon passes and all the brightness of life that has been dimmed by our culture of distraction will light up your mind brilliantly, once you make reciting these remembrances daily. Once you stop denying your mortality and accept the inevitability of certain pains and strife, you tap into a tremendous urgency and energy to get your work- whatever that is- done before your time is up.
The 5 Remembrances:
- I am of the nature to age; I have not gone beyond aging.
- I am of the nature to be diseased; I have not gone beyond disease.
- I am of the nature to die; I have not gone beyond death.
- All that I love, dear and delightful, will change and vanish.
- I am the owner of my kamma, heir to my kamma, born of my kamma, related to my kamma, abide supported by my kamma. Whatever kamma I do, good or evil, to that I will be the heir.
All conditioned things are impermanent. All conditioned things are unsatisfactory. A Dhammas (truths) are without self.
Peace Ground Zero is what we make ourselves if we want to have a better world. Everything I write and post is geared toward promoting the positive and the REAL, not the artificially happy. I always keep in mind the potential effect that what I write may have on my readers. Spinning out from everything you do is the karmic fruit of your actions, and with deliberate, careful consideration and attention we can notice how much good or bad we are doing to ourselves, our families, our neighborhood, city and nation- and yes, even the entire world. Everything starts with one step in the right direction.
This is my step forward; join me and make your own Peace Ground Zero.
